Hi, I’m Ruth M Ward — corporate speaker, communication coach, and founder of Become That Speaker.
Early in my career, I trusted my technical skills but doubted my voice. Around senior management or executives, I’d shrink, convinced my ideas did not matter. My hands shook, my voice wavered, and I stayed silent despite having insights worth sharing. It often took a push for me to speak up. I didn’t lack ideas, just belief that they deserved to be heard
That changed when I learned how to communicate with clarity and confidence, and everything about my career shifted.
Where It Started
Believe it or not, my journey began with a last-minute speech contest in high school. I had one week to prepare. I won. That moment planted a seed.
But it wasn’t until college, when I became shy, that I realized the true power of effective communication.
Fast forward:
I spent over a decade in public accounting and consulting, working with professionals at every level, including the C-suite. I led workshops, presented at statewide meetings, spoke on panels, and represented teams in high-stakes conversations.
I saw firsthand how strong communication doesn’t just make you sound good.
It changes how people see you. It opens doors.
Why I Created Become That Speaker
Because too many smart, capable professionals are holding back.
Not because they don’t have ideas, but because they don’t know how to say them clearly, confidently, and in a way that connects.
I created this platform to change that.
